This is An Experiment

573 Days

It took spammers 573 days to find this site — which is unindexed, and has hardly been updated (ahem). Above image is a photograph I took off some apples on chopping board, using an icon from the Noun Project lab (by Ale Estrada) then modified by moi.

  1. To see how long it takes to put together a new site (using WordPress, Genesis Framework and Custom(ized) Child Theme.
  2. How easy it is to publish recipes and how long it takes (including imagery). Using WP Recipe Maker plug-in (free version) to start.
  3. How long it take for the g00gle goddesses to find and index this site — organically — as of today, have not done anything with the “webmaster” tools angle. Some say 20 recipes (or posts). I have another site which has been up for years (albeit more or less intentionally anonymous) and is reaching the 50 post mark. Google has just started to take the slightest whiff of interest.
  4. Can I turn my baking hobby (paleo / keto / low carb) into a blog? I love baking. Will it be a pro or con?
  5. Will a fun and delightful spreadsheet be the end result? Is there a plug-in for spreadsheets. Add to To-Do List.

I’m an artist and designer who has toyed on and off with blogging for a blush inducing long time. Some have been very successful / professional projects . Others languish in obscurity. I don’t mind.

About 8 years ago I started doing bootcamp in an effort to lose the chub. It worked. And yet was a tremendous amount of effort. Then I injured myself doing burpies in the park (on concrete – I blame the trainer:) and bootcamp was written off as a fun and worthwhile, but definitely not sustainable adventure. A while later, as the chub came back, I discovered whole30 (link to old blog coming) and the weight fell off doing basically zero exercise. I’ve since experimented with paleo, keto etc options. I’m a pseudo vegetarian (or rather a pescatarian, although being allergic to shrimp I avoid shellfish) and so these paleo / keto diets need to be adapted.

Whichever mode I employ, low-carb is the way to go for me, and grain-free is even better. Most of the recipes I will write about are going to be grain-free. Not sugar free. I use less sugar than most and also experiment with stevia, but overall, organic cane sugar, or maple syrup (in smaller doses) feels better than all these borderline frankentstein sugar substitutes. That said, stevia in micro doses in a cup of strong tea … delish!

Eventually I’d like to start drawing the recipes rather than taking photos with my iphone. My “nice” cameras are analogue.

ps. the chub likes to taunt me. For a while swimming was working so well. then I hurt my knee. Back to it in August. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Update: Pandemic Summer 2020. Swam a lot at Kits Pool, (outdoor pool, 137m) what a gift. Now that it’s fall, more challenging to balance the apprehension and anxiety (the military time precision of the indoor pool schedule is a pain) we’ll see if I can keep swimming.
